| Due to the San Francisco Gold Rush of 1849, there was a sudden explosion of peoples to there from throughout Europe and the whole rest of the world.
The French started arriving, en masse, in 1851, and set up their own church on Bush Street. This became the foundation for The French Quarter of San Francisco.
The church is still open, with regular masses still held in French.
