The attractive, quant chalet style little building is all that remains of the Powell St RR Co and its Park Entrance, at the 7th Ave entrance to Golden Gate Park. In the 1880`s, the Richmond District stretch of Fulton Street became known as Beertown, because of all the saloons along the stretch. Then, as now, alcohol was forbidden inside the Park. and there was a horse race track, Bay District Racing Tack, right there along Fulton Street, right among all the homes and families. The families, rightfully, never liked the race track having moved in, and protested constantly, all to no avail. For just a few brief years in the 1890`s, a steam locomotive brought San Franciscans from downtown to the Race Track and saloons.
