This is a Spring picture of the iconic American Gothic House, originally known as the Dibble House located in Eldon, Iowa in Wapello County. This house is an example of Carpenter Gothic architecture, it was designed and built by Busey & Herald, it was constructed 1881-1882. This house was used as the backdrop for Grant Wood’s iconic 1930 painting titled: American Gothic, a reference to the style of window seen between the two figures. This house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on October 1, 1974. This picture was taken on April 28, 2018.
