| Like many cities, San Francisco has many beautiful as well as historically important buildings. This building located on 290 Lombard Street at the foot of Coit Tower has both the beauty and history. The seven story Art Modern building was built by the wife of one of the dependents of Domingo Ghirardelli, the chocolate king. When completed in 1940 the neighbors immediately complained about their views being blocked. It was because of this that the Board of Supervisors immediately passed a forty foot hight limit.
