They were photographed from a boat based at the Chobe Game Lodge. They are headed to the nearby river to drink. They drink around eleven gallons of water a day, and the herd visits this beach often. Elephants are herbivorous and will eat as much as 660 pounds of leaves, twigs, fruit, bark, grass and roots a day. The binomial name is Loxodonta africana. |
