The Metro project is of length 32 km and was sanctioned in year 2010-11 with an estimated cost of Rs.4300 crores. The Kolkata Metro has been serving the city since 1984. The first phase of the Metro project was between Dum Dum and Tollygunge over a length of 16.45 km. Later on the line was extended to an elevated corridor from Tollygunge to New Garia in two phases – Mahanayak Uttam Kumar to Kavi Nazrul in 2009 and Kavi Nazrul to Kavi Subhash in 2010. The final extension constructed was the 2.59 km elevated corridor from Dum Dum to Noapara in 2013. This new Garia – Airport Metro Extension will prove to be a Game Changer for scenario in Kolkata. This corridor will help to support the increasing population that wants to settle down in Garia, and connect to most IT companies and Industries have been centered in Salt Lake, as most home seekers are still looking to settle in Garia due to easy access, lower cost of property and calmer environment.
