The Maramures gate is a wooden structure with a door or gate, having multiple inlays and bas-reliefs, usually in the shape of a Romanesque arch or a modified ogival form, which is placed at the entrance of a traditional Maramures household or house. The wooden gates are located especially in the villages of the Mara, Cosau and Iza valleys. The potted tree is one of the identity elements of Maramures. Even if it is not as well known as the Maramurese gate or the traditional port, it contributes to the uniqueness of this region. It is also one of the reasons to visit this region. Such a tree with pots fascinates any passer-by both by its originality and vivid coloring. If there was such a tree in the garden, and a red pot was placed on top, it meant that a girl of marriageable age lived in the household. Also, the more laden the tree, the more substantial the girl's dowry.
