It is a pigeon-sized, dark leaf-colored bird. It is found in the undergrowth and among dry leaves in forests. It flies to nearby fields when it gets dark and sometimes walks to feed. It returns to the woods when it gets light. It feeds on insects, worms, earthworms and shellless snails. It lays 4-5 eggs in a hole dug in the soft soil under dense undergrowth in the forest. The incubation period is 20 to 23 days. It hides in the forest during the day. Although it prefers to move on foot when disturbed, it rises to the top of the trees very quickly, noisily and vertically in case of danger and flies farther. They roam around open areas at night to feed.
