It is a good idea to soak bald areas of the lawn that been attacked by chaffer grubs, because it encourages them to rise to the surface, to avoid drowning. Placing a black cover over the affected area also encourages them to think it is nightime and safer to move. Once they have risen, chaffer grubs can be picked out of the soil easily.
