Hurulu Eco Park is located in Habarana, in Sri Lanka's North Central Province. Hurulu Forest Reserve of Sri Lanka was designated as a biosphere reserve in January 1977. The forest reserve is an important habitat of the Sri Lankan elephant. The Sri Lankan elephant (Elephas maximus maximus) is native to Sri Lanka and one of three recognised subspecies of the Asian elephant.The Sri Lankan elephant is the largest subspecies. Its skin colour is darker than of indicus and of sumatranus with larger and more distinct patches of depigmentation on the ears, face, trunk and belly. Females are usually smaller than males. |
