| Fort Hammenhiel, Sri Lanka - February 21, 2017: A paved road pier with parked passenger ferry boat for guests visiting the Sri Lanka Navy operated Fort Hammenhiel Resot hotel on island in background. There is an old canon facing the sea on right. Fort Hammenhiel was built by the Portuguese in the mid-17th century to guard the entrance to the Jaffna Peninsula. The fort was used by the Dutch and the British also as a prison. |
