At the confluence of the Tmaka river into the Volga, in the center of the city of Tver, the spacious triangular square, named the Victory Square, is arranged. There was a war memorial established. It is devoted for the fallen soldiers of the Second World War and includes the Eternal flame and the Victory Obelisk. The Obelisk is a 45 meters high rectangular column crowned with rostral elements and a torchlight bowl. A torch is lit several times a year on the special memory dates. The main decorations of the Obelisk are eight bas-reliefs, of 4 by 6 meters. On the copper relief engravings there are text and figured stories about the heroes of the front and rear of the great Patriotic war. The Victory Obelisk was opened in Tver on December 16, 1970, the date of the 29th anniversary of the liberation of the city from German-fascist invaders.
