The Ahr flood disaster of July 2021 destroyed much of the idyllic Ahr valley in the Eifel. The small river turned into a giant wave and changed the riverbed in a flash flood. Many village, houses and bridge were destroyed. The situation in February 2023 is still a destroyed valley with rebuilding effort.
