Cavnic is a town in MaramureÅŸ County, Transylvania, Romania. Tourism is the main sector of activity. During the period when mining was the main sector of activity, complex ores containing gold, silver, lead, zinc and copper were exploited and processed here, the mine being the largest exploitation of complex ores in Europe. After the mine closed, many locals remained without a stable income, and many young people went abroad in the hope of a better living. Logolda of Cavnic is the ruins of an ancient 19th-century gold smelter.
