| Blarney Castle, Irish: Caisleán na Blarnan, County Cork, Ireland, built in 1446 was a medieval stronghold. The famous Blarney stone of carboniferous limestone is built into the battlements. According to local legend, kissing the stone bestows the gift of the gab. My visit to Blarney castle in September saw no lines and the line to kiss the stone began almost immediately. The stairs are quite narrow and steep so it took the line about 20 minutes to ascend. |
