The statue of Vulcan, the Roman God of the forge and fire, was Birmingham, Alabama`s entry in the 1904 World`s Fair held in St. Louis, Missouri. This is the largest cast iron statue in the world and weighs approximately 100,000 pounds. Vulcan is 54 feet tall, stands atop a 128 feet tall pedestal which is at the top of Red Mountain overlooking the City of Birmingham down in Jones Valley.
