The temple was erected on the shores of Lake Como in 1927, in honour of the centennial of Alessandro Volta's death. Busts, bas-reliefs and memorabilia pertaining to Volta are conserved in its interior. Designed by Federico Frigerio, it has the form of a quadrilateral neo-classic temple, preceded by a spacious Corinthian pronao with the statues of Faith and Science by Carlo and Luigi Rigola, inside there is a vast circular room surmounted by dome. The visit to the Volta Temple begins at the left of the entrance, where, testimonies and original finds which Lario's greatest scientist made during his long life as a scientist, political figure and professor are exhibited in chronological order.
