San Francisco at one point as many as 70 independent movie theaters. But with industry consolidations and technological changes, one after another of the neighborhood theaters all closed up until there are now only nine of the original ones left. Opened in 1910 as the Elite, it`s been the Vogue since 1939 and has not stopped since. As an independent theater it can more easily play independent films, as well as Woody Allen and Foreign films. The Vogue Theater is the last of a dying breed of movie theaters.
