Vincent Willem van Gogh was a Dutch painter and one of the greatest figures in world fine art.

One of the most famous paintings by Van Gogh is Sunflowers, about which he wrote two years before his death: "I would most like to adorn my studio with half a dozen paintings of sunflowers â a gem that shines with purity against the most diverse backgrounds, from green to royal blue. ... It would evoke the same impression as Gothic cathedral windows." In style, Van Gogh fits most among the fauvists, expressionists, and to some extent among early abstraction. With his innovative approach to reality, he became one of the main undertakers of Impressionism and significantly influenced the art of the first half of the 20th century. By expressing his own feelings, he unintentionally became one of the founders of the emerging art movement â Post-Impressionism.
