The palace was built in the year 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh and was designed by Lal Chand Usta. It was part of the Jaipur City Palace.1 It served as an extension of the zenana or women's chamber for the harem. The original function of the building was to allow royal women to observe the daily life of the city streets without being seen. |
