| Ruins of medieval castle at Old Sarum, near Salisbury, southwest England. A historically important site, it combines a royal medieval castle and cathedral built after the Norman conquest of England. The existing Iron Age Hilltop Fortification dating back to a neolithic and later Roman era provided the ideal location for these buildings, with a flourishing township coming up later. However within a couple of centuries the entire place was abandoned and later fell into ruin. |
