Whale watching in Pto. Madryn, in Chubut. Argentina. Argentine sea. In the photo you can see her practicing one of her favorite `sports`: sailing, for which she shows her gigantic tail, which can measure up to 5 meters, on the water staying upside down for long minutes, abandoned to the whims of the winds. Southern right whale. The weight is around 40 tons. I gave birth to a calf that was born in winter after 9 to 10 months of gestation. The lactation period is thought to last for a year, although the `calf` is thought to stay with its mother for 2 or 3 more years. It feeds on zooplankton, sea lobster and krill species. It usually feeds in groups between the surface and 50 m deep, filtering water through its beards. Every year, in winter and spring, a large number of right whales come up to the waters of the San José and Nuevo gulfs in the Peninsula of Valdés, province of Chubut, offering sensational edging shows to the increasing number of visitors who gather at the site to appreciate the evolution of these placid marine giants.
