Rock formation in southern Arizona in Chiricahua National Monument (south of Willcox); the Chiricahua Apaches called such rock formations Standing-Up Rocks. This picture shows one of several balanced rock formations, actually the biggest one, therefore called Big Balanced Rock: diameter 22 feet, height 25 feet, weight 1000 tons. These rocks are made up of compressed volcanic ash. Softer layers are washed away, which accounts for these bizarre formations.
