A traditional Maniot Tower, 1829, adorns the Kranai Isle of Gythion. The Tower belonged to the Bey of Mani and General of the War of Independence Tzannetakis Grigorakis and it is declared as a historical preservable monument. The Kranae Isle, marked as an archaeological site, communicates with the land through a swath of land of 150 meters length built on 1898. According to Homer, the isle hosted for a night Paris and beautiful Helen before their journey to Troy. The Tower was donated to the GTO by the politician Tzanis Tzannetakis, and today it hosts The Historical and Ethnological Museum of Mani.
