He was known for his landscapes of Morocco and the daily life of its inhabitants. He was born in 1884 and died in 1995. Chefchaouen is known as `The Blue Pearl` and `the Blue City` of Morocco. The city was founded in 1471 as a small kasbah to defend against the Portuguese invasions of northern Morocco.
