Pitch Pine bark is dark and scaly when young, developing red-brown or yellow-brown thick flat plates with deep furrows sprouts of needles may be present. The bark is pretty much the same throughout the length of the tree although the pieces are irregular. The pitch pine trunk is also thick to help protect from fire. |
