The only surviving stone tower of the Roundabout city of Veliky Novgorod. It was built in the XVI century for the defense of the city from the South. It was named after the wooden Church of Alexey the man of God. The tower is round in plan, the outer diameter is 17 meters, and the inner diameter is 8.2-8.4 m, the thickness of the walls in the first tier is 4.5 m. the Lower parts of the walls are made of cobblestones and faced with brick. Inside there are three tiers, which are connected by stairs laid in the thickest wall. Windows-loopholes are designed for conducting artillery fire and are large `furnaces` that taper to the inner side of the wall.
