Having started life in 1906 with burgers and shakes as the `Minute Man`, it was fast food before there was fast food. Come 1935 and we had the depression. We also had the Golden Gate and Bay Bridges both being built in San Francisco. Then a local grocer bought the restaurant, expanded it and renamed it, `Its Tops`. And that has been it ever since. That is, until 1952, when returning Korean War veteran Richard Chapman, a navy cook, bought the place. Now that Richards own son and daughter have taken over, they are still using the old waffle iron and juke boxes. Comfort foods at its best, or, tops. Unfortunately, the siblings owners who inherited the restaurant, not having any children who wanted to take over, and too small of a space for Covid regulations, the restaurant is now closed for good, by August 2021.
