According to the Chinese traditional culture and customs, performing the Fire Dragon Dance is to send the dragon to the sky for making clouds and rain, and to ensure good weather for the crops, longevity and great harvest. Therefore, Tongliang always has the Fire Dragon Dance in all districts at major festivals since the Ming Dynasty.
