One can only imagine the sweat and tears the Tiwa and Tompiro Puebloan Indians put into meticulously building this Spanish mission next to their pueblo (home town). The brick laying was done without mortar but by carefully selecting the correct sized pieces. Spanish Franciscans coerced the Indians into conversion in the 1600s.
