| Tipa (Tipuana tipu), also known as rosewood and pride of Bolivia, is a South American tree. It is the only member of the genus Tipuana. Well known as a shade tree, it grows up to thirty meters high. Flowers are bright yellow and bloom only briefly in late summer. The fruit is a hard, pod with seed at one end. It sheds all or most of its leaves annually. Timber is whitish in colour, strong and fibrous. Cut logs ooze blood-red resin. |
