Sliema is a tourist resort on the east coast of the Mediterranean island of Malta. The promenade is home to a long promenade and Fort Tigné, an 18th century polygonal fortress. The Stella Maris Baroque Church dates back to 1850, while the San Giuliano Tower is a 17th century watchtower and battery. Forte Manoel, built by the Knights of San Giovanni, and the Lazaretto, a former 17th century hospital are located on the small Manoel Island.
