The three-eyed lizard is a genus of Malagasy terrestrial iguana. Its only species is Chalarodon madagascariensis. Its Malagasy relatives are the iguanas of the genus Oplurus. They are known for their curious feature: a third eye on the top of their head. Although this eye does not function as a regular eye, it can detect light, being similar to a stigma of, say, a euglena. It is common in some of the drier areas of Madagascar.
