Thilafushi is an industrial island in the Kaafu Atoll. The artificially created island with waste is the official garbage island in the Maldives. The unsorted waste is simply thrown into huge groups in the reef and covered with the excavated sand. This measure was necessary due to the growing tourism and wastes on the capital island Malé growing. This island has environmental organizations worldwide employee who propagandierten health problems for humans, animals and the environment. What has changed is still the case today. Meanwhile, industry is located on the newly acquired land.
