There is no one specific person, or even country, that can claim ownership of the very first, true electric car. Although Ben Franklin is most credited with the discovery of electricity, this too is not quite accurate, as there were many before him, too. The two went hand in hand though with the development of the electric car. There had been many, small scale production electric cars going back to 1880. It wasn't until the arrival of Tesla Inc in 2003 and the release of their first car, the Roadster in 2008, that there was a truly efficient mass produced all electric car. And just as fuel cars need gas stations to refuel at, electric cars need charging stations to recharge their batteries at. So, Tesla also owns and operates a series of Supercharging Station around the world, along major travel routes, for customers to quickly and conveniently recharge their cars during long trips. And with the increased popularity of electric cars, there is also an increase in electric cars by other manufacturers. Although these cars can use the Tesla stations, they will need their own adaptors to make it work. As used 1 May 2022.
