Pictured is a termite mound in an open field with the bush in the background in the Okavango Delta in Botswana, Africa. The mound is created by the fungus termites, Microtermes michaelseni. Termite mounds may reach four meters in height above ground, while their living space beneath each mound covers approximately 50 square metres. The mound is made from clay brought from beneath ground level and mixed with termite saliva, resulting in its concrete nature. The photograph was taken from a safari vehicle based at the Atzaro Okavango Camp.
