Part of the Ayutthaya Historical Park, Wat Phanan Choeng is a Thai Buddhist temple, located on the east bank of the Chao Phraya River. It was built in 1324, some 26 years before the city of Ayutthaya was officially founded. The temple houses a highly revered Buddha statue from 1334 CE, an immense gilded 19m high Phra Puttha Thrai Ratana Nayok. The temple was visited in 1407 CE by Zheng He, the Chinese admiral from Yunnan during his second Ming imperial voyage.
