| The teddy bear cholla is named for its furry cuddly appearance but is actually a dense spine plant. This dense covering of spines almost completely obscures the stem, shielding it from exposure to intense sunlight. Formal name is Cylindropuntia bigelovii and is a cholla cactus species native to Northwestern Mexico, and to the United States in California, Arizona, and Nevada. Desert sunset. Vertical. |
