Tathra Beach with its sapphire waters is a 4 kilometre stretch taking in the vista of the Tathra Historic Wharf to the Mimosa Rocks National Park Headland. Here you can watch the surfers and dolphins catch the waves, swim to the Wharf with the locals, dive with the sting rays under the Wharf, or snorkel Shelley Beach where sub-tropical fish play in the soft corals. Just a short drive from Tathra, Mimosa Rocks National Park offers show-stopping headland views, secluded beaches and pure lagoons. The park takes its name from the Paddle Steamer Mimosa that wrecked in 1863 after running onto rocks at the northern end of the park. The rocks of Mimosa have distinctive castle-like features that are the result of intricate folds, faults and intrusions occurring in the rock. The Park`s headlands are great vantage points for whale watching in winter. And from early October through November you can watch the whales and their calves call into Tathra Beach for a break on their way home to Antarctica. A must do on a stay in Tathra is to visit the headland with a picnic basket to watch whales, or to climb up and watch a sunrise, sunset or moon rising out of the ocean - it will be something you won`t forget.
