Originally named Vrouwe Maria, this brig started life as a North Sea herring lugger. She was renamed Morgenster (Dutch for ‘Morning Star’) in 1958, and later was used for sport fishing and as a radio ship for Dutch station Radio Delmare. After falling into a state of disrepair, Morgenster was rescued and transformed into a sail training vessel, taking part in her first Tall Ships Race in 2008. Her beautiful rigging is based on the American clippers from the eighteenth century, which were famous for their speed.
