Pictured is a statue of Saint Syagrius on the exterior of the Nice Cathedral. He was an 8th-century Bishop of Nice and the legendary founder and first abbot of the Abbey of Saint Pons, Cimiez. The cathedral is a Roman Catholic Church which is the seat of the Diocese of Nice. Construction began in 1650 and was finished in 1685. New structures and decorative elements were added until 1949. The cathedral is dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and Saint Reparata. It has been classified as a national monument since August 9th, 1906. The French name is Basilique-Cathédrale Sainte-Marie et Sainte-Réparate de Nice
