Northern Shoveler (Spatula clypeata). Northern Shoveler: A swimming duck species from the duck family, found in the northern regions of Europe and Asia and some areas of North America. This species can be easily distinguished from other species with its spatula-shaped beak. One of its features is that it can see behind without turning its head. Its spatula-shaped beak is its greatest advantage in feeding. The most advanced filter system among surface ducks is found in the shovelbill. It feeds on small creatures, greenery and plankton by moving its beak left and right in the water. They never compromise on protecting their breeding areas. They never allow other creatures to enter their breeding areas of 5 to 30 hectares. Unlike other ducks, the male shovelbill continues to protect the nest area after the young have left the nest.
