| Najaf or al-Najaf al-Ashraf is a city in central-south Iraq about 160 km south of Baghdad. It is the capital of Najaf Governorate. It is widely considered the third holiest city of Shia Islam. This picture captures the streets of Najaf and paintings on date trees on walls. There have been religious wars in Najaf between Shia and Sunni. It was alleged that Saddam Hussain was responsible for the terror in the area. USA had deployed troops of military to Najaf for controlling the tension in the city. |
