Taul Portii - The Lake of the Gate - is a glacial lake located in the Retezat National Park in the Retezat Mountains Southern Carpathians, Romania, at the highest altitude in Retezat, 2260 m. It has a small but permanent water mirror, with snow on its banks in the longer period of the year. It is fed only from underground springs and rainfall. The Retezat Mountains are one of the highest massifs in Romania, being part of the Southern Carpathians. Containing more than 60 peaks over 2,300 metres and over 100 crystal clear deep glacier lakes, the Retezat Mountains are some of the most beautiful in the Carpathians.
