Usually portrayed as a pair of figures that stand guarding temple entrance, nio are two wrathful guardians of the Buddha, standing today at the entrance of many Mahayana Buddhist temples in East Asia in the form of fierce muscular statues. The right statue is traditionally called Guhyapada and the left statue is traditionally called Narayana, and are seen as manifestations of Vajrapani, a protective Bodhisattva.
