| The Stockton Street Tunnel, which connects Union Square and downtown San Francisco to Chinatown and North beach, opened in December 1914.
Although safety railings have always been there to keep vehicles and pedestrians separate, the pedestrians were not always safe from other pedestrians. After groups of local residents held meetings with local politicians in 2015, lighting was improved, as well as ventilation, and new murals of local themes added for pedestrians safety and enjoyment.
As seen in September 2021. |
