The dutch town of Dokkum is a very old town, it is the oldest of the eleven towns of Friesland. In the 19th century many old and distinctive buildings were demolished in the Netherlands, but fortunately in 1974 Dokkum became one of the first conservation areas. Along the Vleesmarkt, corner bridge De Zijl, there are three houses with beautiful step gables, built in 1622.
