Pictured is a marble statue of Saint Agnes, one of four statues by Ottaviano Lazzerini on the main altar of the Church of San Biagio in Montepulciano, Italy. It was created in 1584. Agnes was beheaded at age 12 or 13 for refusing to renounce her faith and marry a pagan man. From a young age she dedicated her life to God and took a vow of chastity. She refused numerous suitor, stating that she had consecrated her virginity to Christ.
