In Piazza dei Cavalieiri, the famous Palazzo dei Cavalieiri, which houses one of the most prestigious parts of the University of Pisa: the Scuola Normale Superiore the Normal School. This building was designed in 1562 by the famous architect and artist Vasari. Before becoming part of the University of Pisa, the Palazzo was the seat of the Cavalieri di Santo Stefano, the order of knights of Saint Stefano, after whom a church in the square is named. The Chiesa di Santo Stefano dei Cavalieri was built from 1565 by Vasari, among others, and was intended for the order of knights founded by Cosimo de` Medici.
