| Statue of Budai, a semi-historical Chinese monk from the 10th century who is always depicted as laughing with a protruding pot belly. Budai is said to be a harbinger of abundance and good health in Chinese Buddhism. In Japanese Zen Buddhism, however, Budai is referred to as Hotei and seems to be referred to as a God of Peace. Regardless, one can`t help smile at such a happy looking character |
